Barber Vintage Motorsports Musem

Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum

I recently had a chance to go check out the collection at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Musem museum in Birmingham, AL. Having grown up in a city that is just 3 hours away, I am surprised I had never heard about it before. Just as advertized, the collection is stunning. I didn't have my camera with me, so I took a few pictures with my phone's little internal camera. As such, the quality is terrible, but poor pictures are better than none at all. It was amazing to see a musem showroom quality example of each of my bikes, and of course a few hundred others. Since I was limited to about 20 pictures, I had to be pretty choosy about what to photograph. As such, most of the photos pertain to my motorcycles and the motorcycles of the people that I know.

They had an SL175 that was manufactured one month after mine. It was nice to see what it is supposed to look like!

Their SL350 was also in really great shape. This one has essentially the powerplant of the CB350 (like mine) with the off-road features of the SL line.

On the other side of the SL spectrum, here is the SL125. It has a single cylinder, and I can't immagine trying to drive it on the road! The barber museum didn't seem to have any smaller models in the SL line.

Here are two examples that best approximate my CB350. The first seems to be a 1971 CB350, which still has the front disk brake, but has a different gas tank from mine. The second is a CB360T, but it does have the same style of gas tank as mine.

And now for the Yamahas. The first below is an RD350 like mine, though different colors. The second is the similar RD200.

Two other interesting and pertinent bikes are the BMW 1100GS that is very similar to Scott's, and the Hercules Wankel that I knew Patrick would have wanted to see.

And for Don, they have a huge Morbidelli motorcycle display.

Check out their website so that you can plan your visit: http://www.barbermuseum.org/. The facility is not far from the airport, but you would definitely need some ground transportation to get there. If you have any interest in motorcycles, I can assure you that it will be worth the visit. If you have been interested in motorcycles for a long time, you will also have lots of those "I remember these!" or "I had forgotten about these!" moments.
