Alum Cave Bluffs TrailFrom the Bluffs to the Summit of LeConteClick here for the first part. As you can see, the trail does get a lot steeper after the bluffs. Note that as the trail ascends, the views of the same ridges in the distance change, and the surrounding rocks and foliage change as well. The last picture in the row above shows the compas heading of the view in the picture just before it. The last stretch of the trail goes just under the area known as "The Cliff Tops." After making a bend to the right, the trail begins to show signs of reaching the ridgeline, since it flattens out and the plants become trees again. The top of LeConte isn't exactly a pointy one, but rather a short length of ridgeline that connects the cliff tops to Myrtle Point. High top, the highest point, occurs along the ridge between these two. So does the camping shelter. Click here to see more pictures on top of LeConte. |
